About Badminton Association of Maldives

Maldives achieved its first ever silver medal from a sport in badminton and badminton is spreading all over in Maldives. BAM is proud to mention that there are well trained coaches and players in almost all Atolls and 11 Badminton Development Committees (BDC) actively functioning for the development of badminton in different Atolls of Maldives.

There are badminton organizations in over one hundred different countries worldwide. The sport's popularity increased dramatically after it was introduced as an official Olympic sport in Barcelona in the year 1992. The Uber Cup is the women's International Championship which has been held every two years since 1986. The United States, China, Japan, and Indonesia are the only countries that have managed to win the Uber Cup so far. The Thomas Cup is the men's International Championship which is also played every two years.
